Faculty Research Salon: Social Media Research

OVPR's Research Enhancement Unit offers a series of engaging Faculty Research Salons designed to connect GW faculty from diverse disciplines in collaborative intellectual and scholarly exchange around research-themed issues, questions and challenges. The salons are moderated by leading faculty and university leadership.

The topic for this salon will be, "What are the possibilities for research using social media data?" The discussion will be led by Dr. Kimberly Gross and Dr. Howie Huang. It is being hosted by GW Libraries and the OVPR Research Enhancement Unit.

This event is motivated by the recognition that with the rise of social media platforms as data sources, opportunities for novel research across a variety of disciplines have emerged. Addressing these research questions require new big data approaches for acquiring data, developing and adapting methodologies, and considerations around ethical practices and data-sharing. This salon is intended to bring together faculty from a wide spectrum of disciplines and expertise, from those excited by the possibilities but not having experience with social media research to those with established research programs.

Lunch will be provided. Space is usually limited to 25 attendees.

RSVP’s are required. To RSVP send an email to [email protected] indicating “FRS” in the subject line and the salon date you wish to attend.
