Student Assistantships and Fellowships

At George Washington University, Graduate Assistantships (GAs) and Graduate Research Fellowships (GRFs) can be funded by sponsored projects. Of the various graduate assistantship and fellowship types, a graduate student cannot have more than one type of role on the same project. The graduate tuition fees vary by program and location for each GW school.

The Office of Graduate Student Assistantships and Fellowships (OGSAF) provides guidance on the roles and funding policies for graduate students, including those supporting sponsored projects.

To receive access to the “Graduate Assistant Roles and Funding Policies” document and the related Faculty & Staff OGSAF Resources Box folder, please contact OGSAF via email gradfellatgwu [dot] edu (gradfell[at]gwu[dot]edu)

Sponsor Guidelines

Please note that it is the principal investigator’s (PIs) responsibility to review sponsor guidelines to ensure that graduate assistantships are allowable expenditures. When developing your proposal, please review the “Graduate Assistant Roles and Funding Policies” document to ensure that all hires comply with university policy (access instructions listed above).
