Find Funding Opportunities

GW investigators begin sponsored projects by identifying internal or external funding opportunities to support research projects. This section includes resources for investigators to find funding opportunities that is best-suited for their projects.  It is critical to select a funding opportunity that is a good fit for your expertise and career stage and the research missions of your department and the university. By starting early, you can research the funding agency where you would like to apply and learn how the application forms and process will work.  The Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP) provides sponsored projects considerations for GW Investigators evaluating alignment of the funding opportunity with the specifics of the project to finalize selection of funding opportunities to pursue.

Process

  • Search for Funding Opportunities: GW investigators begin the search for funding opportunities by visiting the Research Enhancement Unit within the Office of Vice Provost for Research (OVPR), where they will receive personalized support in identifying applicable funding opportunities,  along with writing and editing consultation for competitive grant proposals.
  • Work through GW's Authorized Organizational Representative: The George Washington University, not the individual investigator, is the legal entity and official applicant and recipient on all sponsored projects awards.  The Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP) is the office of authorized organizational representative (AOR) for GW and the office responsible for the administration of sponsored projects proposals, agreements and awards. All official correspondence from sponsors should be directed to OSP at osratgwu [dot] edu (osr[at]gwu[dot]edu).  OSP should be the prime account holder for any sponsor portal that may limit access to one account per institution.  OSP reviews every proposal for compliance with relevant federal, sponsor and university guidelines prior to its submission to the sponsor.
  • Stay Informed of Sponsor Updates: If available, sign up for email alerts related to your funding opportunity to stay informed of any changes that may impact your proposal development and submission.  Sponsor listservs provide additional guidance and change notification related to funding opportunities.
