PI Dashboard

PI Dashboard is a powerful online tool that can be used to access personalized award information. PI Dashboard simplifies financial award management by offering real-time, interactive visualizations and detailed expenditure tracking in a user-friendly interface. PIs, Research Support Teams (RSTs), and other key research personnel can securely access the tool via single sign-on and export data to Excel for deeper analysis.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have never accessed PI Dashboard, how do I access the tool?

Check your access by navigating to PI Dashboard. This will direct you to a Tableau login. Use your GW credentials (including full email address) to log in.

If you are receiving a Tableau error message, submit a Business Intelligence Ticket to request a Tableau license. Once a Tableau license is issued to you, try logging in to PI dashboard again.

If you are still unable to view PI Dashboard, confirm that you have the correct EAS access. If you do not have EAS access, the PI or department chair should submit an EAS ticket to request EAS access.

I have previously accessed PI Dashboard, but I am receiving a Tableau error.

You likely do not have a Tableau license. Submit a Business Intelligence Ticket to request a Tableau license.

I am able to access PI Dashboard, but I cannot see specific PTAs.

If you are able to access PI Dashboard but cannot see specific PTAs, please reach out to the OSP Sponsored Projects Administrator to be added to the award.

I am able to access PI Dashboard and I can see my awards, but I require access to all department/school awards.

To request access to all awards in a specific department or school, please email pidashatgwu [dot] edu (pidash[at]gwu[dot]edu) and supply the following information in your email:

  • Full name of the person to be granted access
  • GW UserID of the person to be granted access
  • Reason you are requesting access
  • Department, organization, or school code you require award access to
Why can’t I see any information in PI Dashboard?

PI Dashboard provides insight into sensitive data about research projects, and is secured for use only by GW personnel associated with research. If you are accessing PI Dashboard from outside of the GW network, be sure you have established a secure VPN connection before accessing the system.

Can I trust the data I see in PI Dashboard?

The information displayed through PI Dashboard is taken directly from EAS/Oracle and BANNER and doesn't change sources, workflows, or processes in place. All of the data contained in those two systems is extracted at the end of each day and made available to PI Dashboard users on the following day.

The information I see for my award in PI Dashboard does not seem correct.

Please keep in mind that the PI Dashboard only provides access to information that was recorded in EAS/Oracle and BANNER by the end of the prior day. Same-day information updates are not reflected in PI Dashboard. Data quality matches and depends on the quality of data in EAS/Oracle and BANNER. Users have access to see all the data that EAS/Oracle security rules allow that user to see. If you need access to see other awards, please contact your EAS/Oracle Administrator to update your security profile and gain access to view additional awards. If there seems to be an issue with the information for your account, please send a detailed description of the issue to pidashatgwu [dot] edu (pidash[at]gwu[dot]edu).

What does this piece of data mean?

Please refer to the PI Dashboard Data Dictionary, located in the SharePoint training library, for an explanation of the data elements used throughout PI Dashboard. A GW login is required to access this document.

What are the benefits of using PI Dashboard?

PI Dashboard is designed to reduce administrative burden, increase transparency and streamline the financial management of awards. With PI Dashboard, you can view summary and detail reports, interactive visualizations and transaction details. It has a user-friendly interface that shows up-to-date information on a grant’s expenditures including salary distributions, travel budgets and subaward details. In PI Dashboard, reporting is dynamic, so researchers can get a birds-eye view of their project or drill down into specific expenses. Information from PI Dashboard can be exported as an Excel spreadsheet. PI Dashboard is accessible using single-sign on authentication.
