Submit Your Notice of Intent

Proposal development and submission is a complex process, which involves the combined effort of multiple GW offices and numerous university partners. Prompt coordination between researchers and other GW stakeholders increases the likelihood of securing funding and ensures compliance with both GW policies and procedures and sponsor requirements.  GW Principal Investigator (PI) should provide a notice of intent (NOI) to inform key partners such as the Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP), Research Support Teams (RSTs), and/or their departments early in the proposal development process to help align efforts and facilitate collaboration among all stakeholders in the proposal process.

Who is GW's Authorized Organizational Representative (AOR)?

The George Washington University, not the individual investigator, is the legal entity and official applicant and recipient on all sponsored projects awards.  The Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP) is the office of authorized organizational representative (AOR) for GW.

Process

  • Contact Your Research Administration Pod: Once PI has identified the funding opportunity, they will initiate sponsored research activities through their assigned Research Support Team (RST), their school-level research support resources. Each RST may have its own process to for initial communications related to sponsored projects. The RST is available to support the PI through every stage of the sponsored projects lifecycle, including proposal development.
  • Provide Notice of intent (NOI) to Submit: PI creates a funding proposal in myResearch as early as possible. This will serve as your NOI for OSP to ensure the appropriate staffing and time for this review. Note: Your research support team (RST) or department may also have a NOI requirement.  Please check with your assigned research support team (RST) or department for internal NOI process.
  • Plan for OSP Five Day Submission Deadline: Complete sponsored projects proposals are to be routed for Specialist Review in myResearch to be reviewed by staff in OSP FIVE BUSINESS DAYS prior to the sponsor’s deadline, calculated from the start of the business day. PI are encouraged to:
    • take note sponsor deadline
    • allow sufficient time for proposal development and review prior to submission.
    • account for GW closures.
    • build in for any unforeseen delays.
    • note outstanding components of a proposal may cause delay in review and approval prior to submission.
